CONTEXTUAL FIT

OBJECTIVE :
The Smith Family has commissioned you to design an addition to their house on the shore of Long Island Sound. The original house, designed in 1965 by architect Richard Meier, has been widely published and is internationally known. Unfortunately, the Owners needs have change since the original design, thereby warranting this architectural intervention. The Owner specifically request that the integrity of the original design be respected, yet the new addition should have its own presence.
NARRATIVE:
My client is a competitive surfer and loves enjoying a cup of coffee and looking out at the sea every morning. On the weekends, my client looks forward to exploring new things and spending time with family and friends. Once a month my client invites everyone over for a game night held in the family room so it is important that this room is the most grand in the house with seamless views of the sea. It is also important to my client that when they wake up the first thing they see is the sea.
