Existing Site
It is important to consider the site when planning out your building orientation. It is important to take advantage of the beautiful water views as well as maintaining pedestrian connection to the dock and Northport park paths.

Concept
After visiting the site I was inspired by the nautical aesthetic the town had, as well as the site being located on Northport Harbor. Aspects of me building represent elements of boats.

When planning out my library I took into consideration how the spaces would interact with each other. I tried to keep public spaces off to the sides and separate from other areas, as well as quiet areas from loud ones.

Site Plan
For the site plan I arranged the building so that it is visible from Main Street and the angle of the multipurpose room gestures towards the town to welcome pedestrians. The path from the corner of the site to the main entrance is inviting and welcoming to the neighborhood. I also relocated the memorial to the north side of the site where I created a courtyard between my building and the park.

First Floor

The first floor consists of the children areas as well as the office suite. I located the office suite directly behind the circulation desk so they have privacy as well as being convenient to place books back into circulation. I also felt it was important to keep the children on the lower level to keep them away from adults and it is easier for a parent they may have a few kids with them.
Second Floor
On the second floor I placed the multi-purpose room right at the top of the main stairs and elevator so it is easy to access. I wanted this room to face the town because it will mainly be used for town meetings or events. My meeting rooms have a beautiful of the park as well as a rain garden I created in the shape of a sail. The outdoor reading area overlooks the harbor as well as the adult area and cafe having large windows with seamless views.

Wall Detail

This wall detail is for my IPE rain screen. The other exterior materials I picked for my building are white cement fiber panels, and zinc cladding panels.
Elevations

The angled facade and windows on the south side of my building is another aspect I got from the idea of boats

The circle windows are to represent boat port hole windows that I located in my Children's collection area. The large vertical window is where one of my stairwells is located and I also placed more angled windows on this facade.
